Background

The European General Practice Research Network is an organization devoted to encouraging international research projects in primary care in Europe. Over the last ten years many successful projects have been carried out and successfully published. Conducting an international collaborative project is exciting but also carries with it, potential pitfalls and drawbacks.

Aims of the workshop

This workshop is tailored for junior researchers to learn for their first time how international projects are set up but also for senior researchers who like to share their experiences and learn new points for their current or future projects.

Method

The workshop will address the following issues via small focus groups:

  • Why international projects: Motivation for participation.
  • How to organise: Research group structure and research organization.
  • Funding: EGPRN and others
  • Set the stage: Research commitment and memorandum of understanding.
  • Understand GDPR and Ethical issues.
  • Internal research communication: how to keep everyone up to date
  • Writing for publications and clarify authorship
  • External research communication: how to spread the word

Results and Conclusions

The results of the workshop will help starting and conducting future international collaborative projects by understanding how to avoid problems inherent to each research project in advance.
